The study utilized dietary and health data from more than 19,000 adults from National Health and Nutritional Examination Surveys conducted between 2008 and 2012.<\/p>\n<p>From this data, researchers were able to determine beverage intake patterns, compare <a href=\"http:\/\/healthyvendingny.com\/beverages.html\">beverage choices<\/a> to current public health recommendations and identify positive results from drinking more water and less sweetened beverages. The following are some high points from the study:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>18 percent of adult calories come from beverages. Current public health recommendations suggest this be less than 15 percent.<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>More than 40 percent of adults reported drinking at least one sugar-sweetened beverage per day. This exceeds public health nutrition guidelines for those trying to improve weight management and reduce the risk for chronic diseases, including heart disease and type 2 diabetes.<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Reducing calorie intake to the recommended 15 percent maximum would cut 3.9 billion calories per day from adults\u2019 diets in the U.S. The predicted weight loss from such a move could mean 1.6 million fewer adults classified as \u201coverweight.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Though Americans are drinking less soda, data still shows that calories from beverages is still exceeding public health recommendations.<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/healthyvendingny.com\/beverages.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-213\" src=\"http:\/\/healthyvendingny.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Fotolia_89324865_Subscription_Monthly_XXL.jpg\" alt=\"Healthy beverages in new york city\" width=\"360\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/healthyvendingny.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Fotolia_89324865_Subscription_Monthly_XXL.jpg 5016w, https:\/\/healthyvendingny.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Fotolia_89324865_Subscription_Monthly_XXL-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/healthyvendingny.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Fotolia_89324865_Subscription_Monthly_XXL-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/healthyvendingny.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Fotolia_89324865_Subscription_Monthly_XXL-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 360px) 100vw, 360px\" \/><\/a>From these findings, recommendations were made regarding limiting added sugars to less than 10 percent of total calories. Also, it is advised that the more one can replace added sugar beverages with one with no sugar added, like water, the better for overall wellness. Though these conclusions aren\u2019t surprising, the results of compliance are powerful.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSwapping water for eight ounces of sweetened beverages every day could save people roughly 100 calories,\u201d said Kiyah Duffey, PhD, Virgina Tech and co-author of the study. \u201cIf those calories are not replaced by other foods or beverages, that is a meaningful reduction in daily energy intake.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Looking for <a href=\"http:\/\/healthyvendingny.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">healthy break room service<\/a> at your New York City\u00a0office?
